Village Green
Start from the middle of the village — no car needed.
Where it is
Park at the Village Green in the centre of Hogsback. The walks start from Redcoat
Lane — look for Hangman’s Tree. If you’d rather drive to the far end, park at The
Edge car park on Perry Bar Lane instead.
What it accesses
Walk out of the middle of the village, past Hangman’s Tree on Redcoat Lane, and the
Tyume Valley suddenly opens up hundreds of metres below the Bluff. Out at The Edge
you’ll find the Eco-Shrine, the Mirrors Gallery and one of the largest labyrinths in
the world — a Chartres pattern 29 m across. Watsonias and proteas in spring, orchids
in summer, and Gaika’s Kop brooding across the valley all year round.
Pick your walk
| Time you have | Walk | Grade |
|---|---|---|
| 45 min | Labyrinth at The Edge — 1.4 km walked in/out, all ages | 🟢 Green |
| 1 hr | The Bluff Experience from The Edge car park (drive to start, 3 km loop) | 🟢 Green |
| 1.5 hrs | Bluff from Village Green via Redcoat Lane (3.5 km one way; ~2.5 hrs there and back) | 🟡 Yellow |
| 1.75 hrs | St Patrick on the Hill & Boardwalk village loop (5.5 km, gentle lanes) | 🟢 Green |
| ~40 min | Military Path — frontier-history forest walk down to the main road | 🟡 Yellow |
Safety at this gate
Do not go near the cliff edge at the Bluff/Edge viewpoint — control children and
pets at all times. On the Bluff route, follow the Green Piggy signs (green piggy with
a yellow diamond) and do not take the Military Path — that signposted warning is
purely a routing note: the Military Path is a perfectly good separate walk, but it’s
the wrong turn if you’re heading for the Bluff. Grass paths near the Eco-Shrine are
slippery after rain.
