The Bluff Experience (drive to start)
Grade: 🟢 Green · Distance: 3 km loop · Time: ~1 hour
Terrain: mostly flat, one gentle descent
Starts at: The Edge car park, Perry Bar Lane (see Village Green gate)
Wet weather: safe
The walk
A comfortable circular stroll along the Bluff — a large grass field that leads,
quite suddenly, to a cliff with spectacular views of the Tyume Valley hundreds of
metres below and the mountains beyond. Gaika’s Kop dominates the view across the
valley. The old trail card lists the loop at 3 km; a GPS trace of the full Bluff Trail records about 5.5 km — the two figures are not yet reconciled.
The loop takes in three of Hogsback’s best-loved landmarks: the Edge viewpoint, the
Eco-Shrine and the Mirrors Gallery. In spring the grassland lights up with watsonias
and proteas; in summer look for yellow iris, yellow crassula and Satyrium orchids.
Drive to The Edge car park on Perry Bar Lane; the 3 km loop takes about an hour at
an easy pace and suits all ages, including less mobile walkers.
What you’ll see

Bluff from Village Green route via Redcoat Lane. - Combine with the Labyrinth for a full, gentle half-morning at The Edge.
