Swallowtail Falls (Hunterstoun Estate)
Grade: 🔵 Blue · Distance: 3.25 km loop · Time: ~1.25 hours
Terrain: gentle, with a cliff-edge section on the loop back
Starts at: Hunterstoun Quarry, Wolfridge Road
Wet weather: caution — boggy ground
The walk
The easiest waterfall-for-effort trade in Hogsback. Park at the quarry about 2 km
from the Hogsback Inn on Wolfridge Road, go through the gate opposite marked
“Hunterstoun”, and follow the red piggy signs on an easy walk alongside the
stream to Swallowtail Falls — an interesting waterfall in a private estate, with
Hog 1 standing guard across the valley.
The loop back adds drama: a cliff-path section where the ground drops away into big
air and bigger views. All in, 3.25 km and about an hour and a quarter — the walk to
bring visitors who want the postcard without the punishment.
