Wolfridge Road
The waterfall road — each parking spot is the start of a forest-and-waterfall walk.
Where it is
Drive out of the village along Wolfridge Road and pick your stop:
- Madonna & Child parking (~5 km from the Hogsback Inn): well-defined,
signposted parking spot for the short falls walk. - Big Tree / Tyume Indigenous Forest Trail sign on Main Road: start of the Big
Tree route. - Zinkuka Trail notice past Madonna & Child: start of the Tyumie Pools walk.
What it accesses
This is the waterfall road. An 800-year-old Yellowwood — the Big Tree, the Eastern
Cape Monarch — stands at the bottom of a forest where Knysna Turacos and the elusive
Narina Trogon call, and old sawpits from the 1890s hide beside the path. Beyond it
the trail threads past Swallowtail Falls and Bridal Veil to Madonna & Child Falls,
the rock face that gives the falls its name cradled in spray. Timber walkways,
Gill’s Bridge, a bathing pool — the full Hogsback forest experience, one parking
spot at a time.

Serious mountaineers: the Three Hogs & Gaika’s Kop
routes also start off Wolfridge Road — but they are unverified and not for casual
visitors.
Safety at this gate
Follow the yellow footprints on the Big Tree route — the path is hard to pick out.
Boardwalks are slippery when wet. Bridal Veil is a rock scramble for agile hikers
only. And remember: what goes down must climb back up — the Big Tree route descends
about 340 m into the forest.
