The walk
If you do only one walk in Hogsback, or you’re travelling with small children or
grandparents, this is the one. Step through the Oak Avenue stone pillars and you’re
in the Arboretum — a garden of trees gathered from all over the world, including
Californian Redwoods well over 100 years old, each marked with its botanical and
common name. An easy, level stroll brings you to the 39 Steps waterfall in about
fifteen minutes.
It’s perfect for a leisurely or romantic wander, or a family picnic under trees that
were already giants when your grandparents were young. Visitors have been doing this
exact walk from this exact start for more than sixty years.
What you’ll see
- Giant Californian Redwoods over a century old
- Labelled specimen trees from every corner of the world
- The 39 Steps waterfall at the end of the path
