Circular Walk (Yellowwood Forest)

Grade: 🟢 Green · Distance: 3.2 km loop (GPS-verified) · Time: ~1.5 hours
Climb: gentle — about 240 m of ascent
Starts at: Oak Avenue Gate — continue through the second set of pillars
Wet weather: caution — the descent is slippery after rain

The walk

The Circular Walk is Hogsback’s classic forest loop: 3 km of indigenous Yellowwood
forest that starts and ends at the Oak Avenue pillars. Enter through the stone
pillars, carry on through the second set, and follow the piggy signs on a gentle
climb of about 240 m. Near the top you’ll pass the Contour Path signpost, a huge old
tree stump, and two viewing platforms looking out over the village before the path
loops back down.

The route was field-recorded by GPS in April 2026, so the distance is one of the
most reliable figures in Hogsback: 2.14 km on the way out, 1.06 km on the return leg.

What you’ll see

  • Ancient Yellowwood forest — quiet, green and cathedral-like
  • Viewing platforms over the village near the top of the loop
  • The Stone Bench “side quest” available at the top (see the
    Contour Path)

Practical tips

  • A walking stick is recommended — the descent is slippery after rain.
  • Fine for beginners and reasonably active families.
  • Feeling strong? The classic combo continues from here: Circular Walk + Stone Seat
  • Tor Doone = 7.8 km, about 3.5 hours.
