The walk
Kettlespout is Hogsback’s famous “upside-down waterfall”. This short, sharp walk
takes you to the viewing platform below the falls — under the right conditions,
with a strong wind blowing in the right direction, the water blows up to five metres
upwards before it falls, creating a misty, spraying spout you’ll hear before you
see.
From Oak Avenue, take Forest Drive to the Kettlespout sign and its small parking
area. The path is 1.75 km there and back, about an hour, with a steep climb up to
the platform at the end.
What you’ll see
- The viewing platform directly below Kettlespout Falls
- On a windy day: the spout itself, firing spray skywards
- Indigenous forest along the Forest Drive approach
Practical tips
- Good boots essential — the final climb is steep.
- The spectacle depends on wind and water: after rain with a stiff breeze is prime
spout weather (but the path itself needs care when wet). - Prefer to see the falls from above? Take the
Kettlespout Top route from the Stone Seat.
