What’s On in Hogsback: The Village Week

Hogsback runs on a village rhythm: the same small set of gatherings, week after week, rain or snow. If you’re visiting, this is the week you can count on — and for one-off events (festivals, concerts, open gardens), the village posts them as they come up on the Hogsback Pulse WhatsApp channel.

Every Saturday

Saturday is the village’s big day — three regulars, all walkable from the centre:

  • Hogsback parkrun — a free, timed 5 km through forest and mountain air, every Saturday at 8:00. Walkers, runners and first-timers all welcome; it’s as much a social as a run — and it’s become a destination parkrun that runners travel from all over the country to tick off. See our parkrun guide for the course and where it starts.
  • “Under the Oaks” Morning Market — the village’s rain-shine-or-snow market at King’s Lodge, every Saturday 10:00 to 13:00. Local produce, crafts and breakfast under the oaks.
  • The Edge Bakes — Saturday mornings at The Edge: sweet and savoury bakes from their kitchen, with the escarpment view thrown in. Early is wise.
  • Bowls at the Bowling Club — the village bowls club rolls out on Saturday afternoons, and visitors are genuinely welcome. Ask at the club or see their page for the details.
  • Starways pottery workshops — hands-on wheel-throwing and drape-moulding sessions at the Starways Art Centre on the mountain road. Small groups and booking essential — check their site before you plan a Saturday around it.

Midweek

  • Library afternoons — the village library opens its doors midweek and on Saturdays; it doubles as a friendly first stop for newcomers. See shops & services for contact details.
  • Bowls, second round — the club’s other afternoon is midweek; same welcome, same mountain views.

Every day, in season

  • Hogsback Adventures combo tours — abseil the Madonna and Child waterfall, then mountain-bike the trails back. Runs most days in season; book ahead through their site.
  • Monthly trail maintenance day — volunteers keep the village’s hiking paths honest, once a month. Visitors welcome to pitch in; ask locally or check the WhatsApp channel for the next date.

One-off events

Festivals, live music, open gardens and markets come and go with the seasons — recently the village has run open gardens weekends, a wine escape and live evenings at the local venues. Rather than let a page go stale with last month’s dates, we point you straight at the source: the Hogsback Pulse WhatsApp channel. Accommodation fills fast when something big is on — if a festival weekend is why you’re coming, book your stay first.

Kept current by the community: the village rhythm checked against the Hogsback business directory, October 2026.
